The Public Phone Booth Number - Part 1

Disclaimer : I'm a huge KPop fan and you will come across names and photographs of KPop idols in most of my stories (The photographs and pics are downloaded from the internet and I do not have ANY intellectual property right over them). They are my muse and inspiration in so many ways. The incidents and characters are fictional and have no resemblance to any K pop idol in any manner.

I am back with another tale that chronicles the adventures of Detective Jeon. Hope you enjoy it.

The Main Characters:-

Detective Jeon Jungkook - the protagonist.

Minnie - Jeon's wife.

The Chief, Namjoon, Dr Kim - Jeon's colleagues at the HQ.

Liam - Jeon's brother.

Jin - Jeon's best friend.

Dylan - Jin's employee.

Ira - Minnie’s best friend.

Col and Mrs Roy - Minnie’s parents.

(From Detective Jeon's POV)

I woke up with a splitting headache! Thanks to Dylan's new cocktail recipe, which left me completely stoned.... The last thing I remember is Minnie giving me 'that look' which said - Oh no! Not again Jeon!

She wasn't in the room. But I could smell freshly brewed coffee and buttered toasts- her favourite breakfast nowadays. She seems to have lost appetite and some weight.....

Despite my terrible hangover, I was suddenly hungry! I quickly washed up and joined Minnie for our morning cuppa, enjoying the cool morning breeze. Her radiant presence and the coffee (in that order!)were therapeutic! My headache was getting better!

The phone beeped and I checked the message. I told Minnie I need to rush as I gulped down the coffee and toast. She just hugged me and asked me to take care.

I quickly got ready and left for the hospital. I drove to the hospital, dressed in my trademark 'black ninja' ensemble of black jeans, black tee, black leather jacket, chunky black boots and a black baseball cap, I was wondering if the person is conscious enough to talk! I parked my black Fortuner, took off my black Oakleys and put on my black mask, as I entered the hospital. The memories of last weekend came flooding back.

The Shootout

It was supposed to be a usual stakeout where I was dressed like a college student looking for drugs, to blend in with the crowd in the most notorious night club of the city. This sleazy part of the city is well frequented by many rich and powerful people in the dead of the night. I'm here to keep an eye on a suspected drug dealer.

The Sunny Street is anything but that! With garish lights on dingy doors, this area is known for all the wrong things! Drug peddling and rave parties being one of them. I don't even want to talk about the rest!

Every Saturday night, the 'Nightingale' has a crowd of drug dealers and zonked out drug addicts who are begging for the deadly drugs! It's a sight which makes me feel anger, grief and repulsion at the same time! It even makes me feel helpless sometimes.....

My target was here. Bang on time, as always. I watched him walking towards the club, looking around furtively. He noticed me, looking all 'dazed and lost', so he presumed I'm the potential customer he was supposed to meet. He approached me and soon I had some of the 'stuff' in my possession. As he happily counted the wad of cash I gave him, I walked unsteadily towards my rented car. I never use my own car or the official vehicle for such things! Pretending to fumble with the keys, I slumped down on the seat, till my target came out of the club. Slowly, I took the car out and followed him at a safe distance.

Suddenly, I heard shots being fired and my target fell on the road. I quickly got off the car and ran towards him. I could see the assailants running away. I quickly put him in the car and rushed him to the closest hospital. Then I called my entire team, waiting for my update and informed them about the shootout.

Unfortunately I couldn't see any of the shooters. We would have to wait till our man is conscious enough to talk.... He had six bullets inside him! But miraculously, as the doctor informed us after a 2 hour surgery, none of the bullets hit any vital organs. '(Amateurs!', I thought!) Still, it could be days before he opens his eyes! There was nothing to do but wait.....

(To be continued....)
