Monochrome (The Black Hoodie - Pt 3)

Disclaimer : I'm a huge KPop fan and you will come across names and photographs of KPop idols in most of my stories (The photographs and pics are downloaded from the internet and I do not have ANY intellectual property right over them). They are my muse and inspiration in so many ways. The incidents and characters are fictional and have no resemblance to any K pop idol in any manner.

(Jake's pov)

It's been about a month since I shifted back to my parents' house. Its been exactly 60 days since I lost my mother to cancer. My father had passed away 5 years ago, again due to cancer, while I was studying in University. Father left behind his flourishing publishing company Monochrome which Mother looked after till I graduated from my MBA program.

Mother's passing hit me harder, because now I had no family. Our trusted butler Jonathan will be here in a day or two. But I had to unpack the entire stuff myself since I didn't want to disturb Jo (my nickname for Jonathan) during his much deserved leave.

The house opposite mine caught my eye the moment I came here. It was a 'home ' where a happy family lived. I envied that girl who had both her parents doting on her and missed mine a lot.... It was messy, busy and lived in - clothes drying outside, teacups left on the small table in the verandah, dainty flower pots being tended by the couple and the girl, with her pet dog in tow, running in and out the door!

I know the girl watches me from the window of her room upstairs. I wonder what the color of her eyes is? Her hair?

I wish I wasn't colorblind..... My world is only black and white and gray.... Monochrome.

That's why I renamed the company, Monochrome, when I took over.

The first tint of color I saw was the girl's window curtain. It wasn't black or white or gray....So, I don't know which color it was. The point is I saw color. For the first time. In ages!

Yesterday, we almost bumped into each other in the morning and I saw more colours - her eyes were the same color as her hair. She was in a hurry and I saw her parents at the door. Why is it that I see only the girl in color and the rest of the world remains monochromatic?

The dinner at my neighbor's place introduced me to more colours - her dress matched the color of her lipstick. I wish I could name those colors! I know there's red and blue and purple but I don't know what they look like.... Not anymore! It's been ages since I saw colours....

I was home-schooled till I decided to go to college on my own. Surviving college and University with my condition wasn’t easy but I managed! I bought myself five sets of black pants and white shirts. Jonathan made me buy another 5 pairs of blue (as Jo said) jeans with white tees and a few black jackets and hoodies. He also forced me to buy (and wear) a blue colored (well, he said its blue!) suit for the dinner at the neighbor's place!

But, I'm really curious about the sudden appearance of colours in my monochrome existence!

It was sheer luck to see my neighbor Jenny at my friend Jay's office. Jay is my best friend. The only friend I made in college and he is into content creation for school and college textbooks and reference books. We were discussing about the need to make children's textbooks more interesting and apparently Jenny had just come up with some brilliant ideas. I couldn't wait to see her project because Jay had spoken highly of Jenny's creative ability.

Of course, Jenny was wearing matching shoes with her dress today! It was a bright and cheerful color.

To be continued..........
