2020 was an unforgettable year. A global pandemic caused by a deadly virus affected people the world over. People were confined to their homes, with kids attending classes ‘online’ and adults working from home. Roads were almost empty as there was hardly any vehicular traffic. Even the airways and railways came to a standstill. It was as if time had stopped and we were collectively holding our breaths, waiting to exhale, as we watched nature claiming its rightful place once again.
As governments enforced lockdowns and imposed restrictions on movement, the medical fraternity was at the forefront, issuing precautionary advisory and fighting the pandemic head on. Nothing was the same anymore....
It was a rare opportunity to sit at home for months, watching the seasons change- spring, summer, monsoons, autumn and winter- from my usual spot on my balcony. I love sitting on my comfortable cane chair and looking out from my balcony which overlooks the beautiful park across the road. Usually it’s crowded with children running around and people walking their pets or exercising. Mornings and evenings would see huge crowds in the park, while afternoons were relatively less crowded. Nowadays it’s just empty, all day.
A cold but sunny winter morning cheered me up. I opened the doors and windows to let in some cool, fresh air and sunlight into my room. With a hot steaming cup of tea, I curled up on my favourite chair as I watched the world around me coming back to life.
As the hot tea soothed my throat, I couldn’t help but think if and how 2021 will be different from 2020! It’s the fag end of the year, as a new year appears on the horizon. Despite the quarantine, lockdowns and social distancing, 2020 was a year of spending quality time with family, connecting with our inner selves and introspection.
Here’s hoping for better days in the coming year! Personally, 2020 was a great year for me as I wrote a lot, read a lot and listened to more BTS than ever! In fact, their latest chart topper “Life goes on” completely echoes my sentiments....
..Like an echo in the forest
The day will come
As if nothing had happened
Yeah life goes on......
