Dylan handed me another new cocktail as I sat down. I had to ask Jin about Lucas. As Jin sat down next to me I asked him if he knew anything about the Gomes family, being a friend of Lucas.
Jin- Lucas had a twin brother, a typical rich man’s spoilt brat, who showed off his father’s money and Mr Gomes had always told him to be mature and responsible like Lucas. It was an open secret that Keith resented his brother because Lucas had already been announced as the heir apparent. His creative and modern ideas, love for latest technology had already helped GEM to rake in more profits. When their father passed away, Lucas flew down immediately and implemented more of his ideas to take the company to the top! Everything was going well until one day, when Lucas came back from a business trip, Keith went missing! Everyone thought that he had been abducted but no ransom calls were received! Despite all the efforts Lucas made, there was no news of Keith. No one knew whether he was alive or.... dead. It has been months now!
I just nodded, not wanting to tell Jin anything right now. I had to find out more about Keith.
There was a message from Namjoon which said Lucas had a twin brother named Keith, who went missing 2 years ago and had never been found. Same as what Jin told me; nothing new.
Well, Lucas had some explaining to do! I decided to call him later. It was all too bizarre.... The man who looked like Lucas didn’t have hatred or resentment in his eyes! Pain and anger probably, but no hate....
Instead of going home I called Lucas and drove towards the Gomes mansion. It was late but I needed answers. I got inside the gate easily and quickly parked my rented car. Lucas was already waiting at the door as I ran up the steps.
Lucas- Jeon, something urgent??
I- Yes. I think we need to sit and talk.
We sat down on the stylish and comfortable leather recliners.
I- Lucas, you never mentioned your brother last time. I want to know more than what police reports and print media is telling me. Even if it’s an uncomfortable topic, I require you to tell me about Keith.
Lucas was looking at me wide eyed with shock. He closed his eyes and sighed.
Lucas- Keith hated me. He was constantly compared to me, ever since we were in school. Things got so bad that finally I decided to go abroad after school so that he could have his moment. He did begin to change for the better a bit but then father’s death affected him a lot. He went back to his old ways and finally he just vanished! I was out of the country on business and the day I landed, Keith left home that morning and never came back. I called up his friends and waited for 2 days, before filing a missing person’s report with the police. We searched for him like crazy but.... feared the worst. There were no ransom calls, no unclaimed dead bodies, nothing! Keith just disappeared!
Lucas looked calm and sad while talking about Keith. I asked him to show me a picture of Keith and marvelled at the similarity.
I- Can I take it with me?
Lucas nodded and took the photo out of the frame, handing it over to me. I looked at the glossy photo and then at Lucas.....
I- God is really great! I always go speechless when I see identical twins! No one can tell you both apart. By the way, did you get any more calls? I think I have zeroed in on the caller but I need to confirm his identity first.
I didn’t tell Lucas anything else about the unknown caller. The photograph was an eye opener. I got up and thanked Lucas. As I was walking towards the door, Lucas came running behind me and said, "Jeon you forgot your phone and keys! “
I smiled and thanked him for everything and drove back home.
