HIRAETH

Writer: tamannassrtamannassr

Hiraeth (Welsh pronunciation: [hɪraɨ̯θ, hiːrai̯θ]) is a Welsh word for longing or nostalgia, an earnest longing or desire, or a sense of regret. The feeling of longing for a home that no longer exists or never was. A deep and irrational bond felt with a time, era, place or person.

The earth

Of my birth

Isn’t mine any more

The home

Where I was always welcome

Isn’t mine anymore

Muddy footprints on the floor

I learnt to walk on

Hands imprinted on the walls

that I leaned on

Not mine anymore

Moments when memories

were made

a safe haven

an open gate

Not mine anymore

I long to go back

Where my home was

To warmth and love

Welcoming arms

Not mine anymore

Neither here nor there

suspended somewhere

Between a wish

and a dream

Not mine anymore

The heart aches

and hurts

Reality bites hard

I long to belong

To retrace my steps

On that path to my happy past

But...

It’s not mine anymore....
